Room5 Learning Centers>

Mission Statement
"To fill the need for Facilities for Charter Schools, Students, and Adults that want more opportunity to develop their life-long learning skills". Whether it be primary or advanced education looking toward college or learning a trade.

Vision Statement Room 5 Learning Centers, a California non-profit corporation, will provide facilities for Charter schools, home schools, adult education and technical training for families and students. These facilities will house a number of individual and small learning rooms equipped with technology for their given area of expertise. Room 5 will provide on-site support for teachers and parents who utilize the facilities. We will fill the need for students and teachers that require facilities for small group activities such as: multi-media, science labs, music, dance, tutors, technical training, computer learning or just a classroom. Since the facilities are shared by a number of groups we will be able to keep the cost affordable, up-to-date and available 12 hours a day.

Executive Summary
Room5 has recognized that Charter Schools, Home School, Technical Training as well as Adult Education requires, at times, a facility where the students and the instructor can meet in a classroom environment and that is conveniently located within the community it serves.
Room5 Learning Centers was created to fill this need by providing these facilities with modern amenities useful for today's world as well as being able to meet our client's individual curricular goals. (our perspective)

Room5, at an hourly or contract rate, will provide state-of-art facilities with increased hours of operation over traditional schools.

This pooling of services and space allows for the highest quality facility for the best price for our clients.

We offer facilities for computer learning, scientific laboratory work, studio/editing, music, and more (see later).

Additionally, we believe this project will stimulate the local economy which will make us attractive to all rural communities. Room5 Learning Centers wishes to provide instructional facilities to the educational community in rural America. Due to our knowledge of Foresthill our pilot project will start there.

History of Foresthill
Foresthill is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range 19 miles from Auburn (the nearest city) and 22 miles from the nearest High School. The population is 5700 people with a 12.1% unemployment rate and no industry. The town is at 3200 feet of elevation. Although no record has been kept on the drop-out rate for high school students it appears to be high (25%). The bus trips on the snow-covered roads during the winter do not encourage travel and discourage any athletic or social interaction. The cost of telephone calls also reduces the communication between the rural students and the city students.

Facilities
Room5 Learning Centers is prepared to fill the needs for the Charter School, Home School, Technical Training and Adult Education. Room5 provides learning facilities for the whole community with available facilities from 8 AM To 8 PM. The small but functional facilities of Room5 will provide computers, science labs, music, dance, small classrooms and a complete resource center for books and materials. For those who use the Distance Learning approach we have high-speed Internet connections.

Computer Learning
Whether for research or distance learning Room5 provides state-of-art computers with high-speed access to the Internet. If you need to type a report or prepare graphics we provide the latest software. If you need to bring your own hard drive we have the ability to make the hard drive portable. If you wish to save your assignment on CD we provide CD burners. We also provide interactive software that will allow you to keep track of your assignments, personal calendar and keep in contact with your ES, parent or tutor. Please see Appendix A for a more detailed list of the interactive software.

Science Lab
The science lab allows the teacher to meet with small groups of students to perform scientific lessons under a controlled environment. Whether it is dissecting a frog or astronomy we provide the equipment.

Studio/ Editing room and Multi-Media Room We provide the latest in computer, VCR, DVD, playing, recording or live facilities for the students. Foresthill Education Foundation is a non-profit group providing local access television over cable. It is supported by USA Media (our cable company) and private donations. Presently we are able to televise basket ball games and plays; however, the quality of the programming is pitiable due to the fact the equipment is old and of poor quality.

Activities Room
For those that like the arts and physical education we provide a room large enough for dance, choir, theater arts, martial arts, or aerobics.

Music Room We provide a music room with a piano for individual lesson. This facility can also be used for other instruments (provided by the instructor or student).

Class Rooms
We provide classrooms with a white board and table and chairs for the small group instruction.

Dark Room
We have a dark room for the photo buff.

Resource Center
In our facility we provide for all of your stationary needs. Additionally, for Charter Schools, we will keep all your forms, flyers or other information you deem appropriate. This would include books, reference material and anything you now provide in your resource center.

Technical/Trade Training
We have three bays for projects. This includes automobile mechanical training for those interested in learning basic auto maintenance and auto restoration, i.e., small engine repair, boat motors, chainsaws, weed eaters. It is our goal to find a car or boat for restoration for the students to restore over a year and at the end of the year it will be sold and the profit will go for the purchase of more equipment for the shop and help offset the cost of the instructor. We would like to see the car or boat done before the Fourth of July Parade so that the students might display their work project at the Parade.

Financials
Funding
Funding, as with any good cause, must come for those that use the services; however, a reduction in cost can be realized by sharing the facilities with people of like mind and similar requirements. Unlike traditional schools that are closed most of the time and for months during the summer we wish to keep the door open 12 hours a day and all summer. Room5 Learning Centers will also rely on the generosity of corporate America for donations of equipment and financial support. We will, over the next few months, be writing for grants in hopes to supply the equipment required for such an undertaking.

Budget
As with any new venture we will start with a pilot program providing facilities that are fundamental to the success of the project and as funds become available we will expand.

Background
Room5 Learning Centers is a nonprofit, public benefit corporation established to provide facilities in communities where Home Schools are predominant and Charter Schools have been established.

A little about the founders
Larry and Lore Clarke took an early retirement from Pacific Bell. Founded a start-up company R C Concepts, Inc. in 1987. Invented and patented a Digital Band-pass filter and was one of only 3 manufacturers to develop a digital loop back T1 repeater, both used in the telecommunications field. In 1995 assisted in the start-up of an Internet company (Foothill.net). In 2000 Larry was one of the founders of Ceristar, Inc. a company that provides bundled services that will be going public this year. We would now like sharing some of our innovations and management skills with the educational community and future generations.
